Guarding Your Peace While Walking in Purpose

Heart to Hope Center | Mental Health | By Marisol Gonzales | PEACE

A Transformative Experience at the Grant‑Writing Conference. One lesson that stood out was the importance of learning to guard your peace during stressful professional events.

Learning From Funders and Strengthening Your Case for Support

I recently had the privilege of attending an important grant‑writing conference. It was an incredible experience; one I am truly grateful to have lived. Hearing funders share their recommendations and insights was invaluable. I was eager to learn new strategies for strengthening a case for support. Without hesitation, I can say that I left the event—surrounded by more than 200 attendees—feeling elated and inspired by the professionalism, clarity, and wisdom of the presenters.

Protecting Your Peace Through Spiritual Awareness

What I didn’t expect was how much the experience would remind me of confidence and purpose. It also reminded me of the importance of staying spiritually aware when others’ intentions may be to shame, discourage, or make you doubt your own path. Sitting at a diverse table can reveal many different energies, perspectives, and motives.

For a moment, I felt myself step back spiritually—almost as if I were standing outside the circle. I chose to safeguard my peace from the subtle forces that can exist in any environment we enter.

In that moment, I was reminded of Ephesians 6:12, which teaches that “we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world.”

Anchoring Yourself in Scripture and Purpose

This scripture helped me see the experience beyond personalities and surface‑level interactions. Sometimes the forces we encounter are not simply about people, but about the spirit behind discouragement, shame, comparison, and confusion.

Rather than allowing those forces to distract me, I chose to remain anchored in purpose and protect my peace. I also remembered that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.

Seeing Beyond Personalities and Surface Interactions

If you know me well, you know that I try to learn from every experience and use it as a steppingstone, ladder, or even an elevator to rise higher. So, I ask you as you read this blog:

What forces are trying to prevent you from excelling in your plans, dreams, or aspirations? Have you ever been ashamed, dismissed, or ignored—in your life, workplace, or even in a church setting?

If your answer is yes, remember this: those moments do not define you, nor do they have the power to cancel what God has placed inside you. Shame may try to silence your voice, and discouragement may try to slow your steps. Additionally, rejection may try to make you question your worth—but purpose has a way of rising above every attempt to bury it.

Turning Challenges into Growth Opportunities

Keep learning, keep growing, and keep showing up with faith, wisdom, and a guarded spirit. What was meant to weaken you can become the very lesson that strengthens you for the next level.
